Students, Local Leaders Play In Annual Basketball For Peace Tournament

BOSTON (CBS) --- Local kids and teens hit the hard court Thursday, playing for peace at the sixth annual basketball for peace tournament.

They had the chance to work and talk with local leaders who encouraged the students to work hard and make positive choices.

The annual event is put on by the Suffolk County District Attorney's office to encourage students to stay away from violence.

Lashena Butler says her son Malike has recently gotten in some trouble and the program at the Joan Kroc Community Center is a great influence.

"He's not on the street, I know where he is. It's like the commercial. Mine is at the Kroc Center playing basketball," she said.
