Students Injured In Sudbury School Bus Crash

SUDBURY (CBS) – Several students were injured when a school bus and a car crashed head-on in Sudbury Wednesday afternoon.

The crash occurred on Concord Rd. at about 4 p.m.

The driver of the car, a 73-year-old Sudbury woman, had to be extricated using the Jaws of Life. She was transported to a Boston hospital with serious injuries.

The school bus was carrying 25 students from the Algonquin Regional High School girls' rugby team. Nine students and the bus driver sustained minor injuries and were taken to the hospital. Five of those students refused treatment at the hospital.

"In speaking to them there was some whiplash, potential concussion, some shoulder complaints, knee complaints," Sudbury Police Chief Scott Nix said.

Nix said one of the team coaches, who has a nursing background, treated the driver of the Cadillac before first responders arrived on scene.

"It was very beneficial to have someone with that level of experience right there to assist," Nix said.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.
