Student Brings Loaded Gun To Boston School

BOSTON (CBS) – Boston Police arrested a teen who brought a loaded handgun to a Mattapan school Thursday morning.

Officers say the 15-year-old male student arrived late at Tech Boston Academy and tried to get around the metal detectors.

School officials attempted to look in his backpack and saw the firearm. The student ran off, but police officers caught up with him.

A loaded black Mauser .32 caliber handgun was recovered from the student's backpack.

"Illegal guns have no place on our streets and certainly not in the hands of a child," said Police Commissioner William Evans. "Thanks to the keen observations and quick actions of the school police officers and administrators, a potential tragedy was avoided and one less gun is on the streets."
