Stephon Gilmore Returns To Patriots Training Camp

BOSTON (CBS) -- Stephon Gilmore is back at Patriots training camp.

The All Pro corner had missed the previous four practices to tend to a personal matter, but returned to the field on Tuesday. He was held up a bit as he awaited his COVID-19 test results, according to NBC Sports Boston's Phil Perry.

Now he's back, and it's always good to see the best corner in the NFL back in action for the Patriots.

There was some speculation that Gilmore -- the reigning NFL Defensive Player of the Year -- was holding out for a new contract, but that is not the case. On his Monday afternoon appearance on WEEI's Ordway, Merloni & Fauria, Patriots head coach Bill Belichick said that Gilmore's absences were excused.

"There's some protocols that we've had to deal with," explained Belichick. "When he's able to come back, he'll be back."

Gilmore is signed through the end of next season, and is set to make $10.5 million this season.
