Statehouse Exhibit Marks 150th Anniversary Of Lincoln Assassination
BOSTON (AP) — An exhibit at the Massachusetts Statehouse will commemorate the 150th anniversary of the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln.
The Secretary of State's office says material from the state archives will be on display Wednesday in Doric Hall.
Lincoln was shot on April 14, 1865 while attending a play at Ford's Theatre in Washington and died the following morning.
The Statehouse exhibit will include a telegram sent from Washington on April 16 and another telegram on April 27 from Secretary of War Edward Stanton to Gov. John A. Andrew announcing the capture of Lincoln's assassin, John Wilkes Booth.
Also featured will be an invitation sent to Andrew to attend the funeral services and a personal letter the governor sent to Lincoln's widow.
