State To Hold Unclaimed Property Auction On EBay

BOSTON (CBS) -- Jewelry and high-end watches are among the items you'll find at the state's unclaimed property eBay auction on Saturday.

After going unclaimed for years, the items from abandoned safe deposit boxes will be put up for sale on Halloween starting at 12 p.m. Some of the other items you'll have a chance to bid on include sports memorabilia, gold, and coins.

The State Treasurer's office put them on display Monday at the Statehouse. It was the first of five showings they will be having in Massachusetts.

"We want to make sure everyone in the public across the whole state gets the opportunity to see the items and bid on them," State Treasurer Deb Goldberg told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Ben Parker.

Up to 1,500 lots will be auctioned off, and more than $300,000 is expected to be raised for the state's general fund.
