State Police Find Man Who Allegedly Stole Cruiser Walking On Mass. Pike

NEWTON (CBS) -- State Police have identified the man they say stole a police cruiser from South Boston and drove it to a parking lot in Somerville.

Police responded reports of a man walking on the Mass. Pike in Newton early Tuesday morning. The man was reportedly ripping pages from a Bible and throwing them into traffic. The man ran across the train tracks and was later found on Craft Street.

A State Police cruiser was stolen from South Boston and later recovered in Somerville (WBZ)

Troopers recognized him from surveillance images of the suspect involved in Monday's cruiser theft. The man also allegedly confessed to taking the cruiser.

The man was taken to Saint Elizabeth's Hospital for a mental health evaluation. Police said it is unclear whether he will face charges.
