Start Of School Year Delayed By 10 Days For Massachusetts Students

BOSTON (CBS) -- Massachusetts is delaying the start of the school for students by 10 days, Commissioner of Education Jeffrey Riley announced Monday. The Department of Education and Secondary Education reached an agreement with the Massachusetts Teachers' Association, AFT-Massachusetts, and the Boston Teachers' Union on the delay.
Teachers will now be able to use that time to further prepare for the fall during the coronavirus pandemic.
The 180-day requirement for schools will be reduced to 170 days, as to not extend the year with the delay.
Schools must open no later than September 16.
