Spooner, Robins Make Bruins Roster; Pastrnak Sent To Providence

BOSTON (CBS) -- With the 2014-15 NHL season just a day away, the Boston Bruins' opening night roster is beginning to take shape.

Bruins general manager Peter Chiarelli announced at the team's media day on Tuesday that Ryan Spooner and Bobby Robins have both made the team's roster, while first-round pick David Pastrnak has been assigned to the Providence Bruins.

Spooner was sent down to Providence last week, but scored two goals against the New York Islanders on Friday night. He played 23 games with the Bruins last season, totaling 11 assists.

"We like him a lot," head coach Claude Julien said of Spooner. "We're going to have a great player; he has great potential."

Robins, a 32-year-old forward who has spent most of his careers in the minors, will try to fill the enforcer role left vacant by the offseason departure of Shawn Thornton.

"All through camp he showed that he belonged," Chiarelli said of Robins. "We know he can handle himself well and he's given our team energy."

The 18-year-old Pastrnak, who Boston selected 25th overall in the 2014 draft, missed much of the preseason with an injury and was not present at Boston's morning practice on Tuesday.

The Bruins also announced that 34-year-old Simon Gagne will remain with the team. He remains unsigned, but will continue to work out and travel with the Bruins.

Final rosters for the regular season need to be set by 5 p.m. on Tuesday.

Julien also said he isn't sure if top line center David Krejci will play in Wednesday's opener against Philadelphia after missing practice on Tuesday. Krejci suffered a minor injury in Boston's preseason finale, which hasn't healed as well as the team had hoped.
