Hundreds Enjoy L Street Brownies Annual Polar Plunge In South Boston

SOUTH BOSTON (CBS) – A century-old tradition in South Boston resumed Wednesday morning in the chilly water of Boston Harbor.

Hundreds of people went to the Curley Community Center on Columbia Road for the L Street Brownies annual New Year's Day swim just before noon.

They braved the 39-degree weather to take a quick plunge for a memorable start to 2020.

This is 117th year the Brownies have held the swim. The group claims to be the oldest "polar bear" club in America.
