Woman Hit And Killed While Crossing Street Near Andrew Square In South Boston

BOSTON (CBS) – A woman was hit and killed Tuesday while crossing a busy intersection in South Boston.

It happened just before 11 a.m. outside the Andrew Square T station near Southampton Street and Dorchester Ave.

Boston Police confirmed that the victim did not survive.

The area was closed for several hours but has since reopened.

A tractor-trailer was surrounded by police tape about a half mile from where the person was hit. Police confirmed that was the vehicle involved in the crash.

It is not known if the driver knew he had hit someone. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday afternoon.

People familiar with the area say it is a dangerous intersection.

"Cars fly up and down the street they want to make this light because it's a five light intersection," said one man. "I see vehicles just missing people running yellow lights running through red lights just in trying to make this light. It has to stop."
