Snow Coming, But City Says Space Savers Still Have To Go

BOSTON (CBS) -- More snow is in the forecast, but Boston residents who shovel out a parking space on Monday won't be able to save it, the city says.

Boston Mayor Marty Walsh declared last week that items such as chairs and cones being used as "space savers" would be cleared out starting Monday.

With about 3 to 6 inches of snow expected overnight, that plan is still in place, officials said Sunday morning.

"Contracted residential trash collectors will pick up space savers on their routes beginning Monday," Walsh spokeswoman Bonnie McGilpin told WBZ-TV.

More than 100 inches of snow has fallen in Boston this winter, making creating a nightmare for both drivers and pedestrians on city streets.

Space savers are generally allowed for about 48 hours after a snowstorm, but the unprecedented amount of snowfall has stretched the unofficial rules.
