Slater: Beating Colts On Road Can Be Huge Confidence Boost

BOSTON (CBS) - Patriots special teams captain Matthew Slater called 98.5 The Sports Hub's Gresh & Zolak show Thursday morning.

Slater talked briefly about the bye week, and how the whole team feels "refocused and re-energized" after their time away -- a sentiment also shared by Shane Vereen earlier this week.

"There's a lot of football left and a lot to play for. I don't sense any complacency, which is always a good thing. We've got our work cut out for us here over the next few weeks. We've come back [from the bye] with the right mindset and hopefully it works out for us," said Slater.

Slater also gave a brief scouting report of Indianapolis, a team they'll face Sunday night in prime time on the road.

"They pose a lot of problems in all three phases of the game. This is a team that's going to be in contention for a long time. This will be a tough game for us."

The Patriots have struggled in recent years on the road against quality opponents, which is a trend Slater and company hope to break on Sunday night.

"I think road wins are huge. Over the course of the season for us to get where we need to be, we're going to have to win games like this against good opponents, when they're crowd is into it and everything is not going our way," Slater said of his team's tough matchup this weekend.

"This is a big game; just for our confidence as a team mentally, for the group of guys to prove to ourselves that we can go out there and do that will go a long way at the end of the day. We understand the magnitude of it. [Struggles on the road] is something that has been talked about, and hopefully we can go out there and do what we need to do."
