Residual Commuter Rail Delays Expected After Signal Problem Near South Station
BOSTON (CBS) - Commuter rail riders faced headaches Friday morning due to a power issue South Station.
According to Keolis, the company that recently took over commuter rail operations, a power failure occurred at Amtrak's main switching center around 6 a.m.
The problem impacted both inbound and outbound trains on the Framingham/Worcester, Needham, Franklin, Providence/Stoughton, Middleborough/Lakeville and Kingston/Plymouth Lines. All of those lines were all facing significant delays. There was at least one cancellation along the Providence/Stoughton line.
A number of commuters were dropped off at connecting stations along the red and orange lines in order to minimize delays.
As of 8:30 a.m., Keolis says power has been restored. Residual delays are expected.
