Two Killed In Separate Overnight Shootings In Boston

JAMAICA PLAIN (CBS) -- Two people were killed in separate overnight shootings in two Boston neighborhoods.

Boston Police said a man shot early Saturday morning in Jamaica Plain has died.

The victim, who has not yet been identified, was shot around 3:30 a.m. Saturday outside 7-11 on Centre Street.

Officers found the man with multiple gunshot wounds. He was taken to an area hospital, and later died.

In Dorchester, a man was shot to death around 1:39 a.m. on Westville Street.

Two other shootings happened in the city overnight--one on Standard Street in Mattapan, and one on Norton Street in Dorchester that left one victim with non-life-threatening injuries. Police say these two incidents, along with the fatal shooting in Dorchester may be indirectly related to the Caribbean Festival parade taking place this weekend.

"This is always a challenging night for us," said Boston Police Commission William Evans. "We have five people shot this time last year, we've had four so far this yea, so we're working hard."

"We have a lot of extra visibility out there," said Evans.

Boston Police are asking anyone with information about the shootings to contact them.
