3 Cape Cod Beaches Close After Sharks Spotted Feasting On Dead Whale

NORTH TRURO (CBS) --  At least two great white sharks were seen feasting on a whale carcass Friday in Cape Cod Bay off North Truro.

The sighting prompted officials to shut down area beaches including Noons Landing, Beach Point and Cold Storage.

Researchers with the Center for Coastal Studies recorded video of the sharks feasting on the dead whale.

Researcher are not sure how the whale died but within 24 hours, the whale was mostly devoured.

"Data collected during these 72 hours shows that there is as much to be learned from the whales in death as in life," researchers said.
