Severe Weather Forces Evacuation Of Esplanade

BOSTON (CBS) - The threat of severe weather forced the early evacuation of the Esplanade Thursday night.

The Boston Pops Fireworks Spectacular, which was moved up one night to July 3 due to Hurricane Arthur, went smoothly until severe thunderstorms moved into the area.

The fireworks were launched early at 10:00 p.m. to beat the bad weather. A Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued minutes after the fireworks ended.

State Police say they evacuated the oval at the Esplanade immediately after the show and the crowd was "relatively orderly." There were no reports of any injuries.
