Several Brands Of Bottled Water Recalled Due To E. coli

BOSTON (CBS) -- Niagara Bottling has issued a voluntary recall of its bottled water products after learning some of its spring sources were contaminated with E. coli.

Its bottled water is marketed under 14 brand names including Shaws, Big Y, Nature's Place, and Wegmans.

The company says bacteria were found in two of its Pennsylvania supply sources on June 10, but was not notified about the contamination in a timely manner. The company is no longer using the sources.

A presence of E.coli means the water was contaminated with human or animal waste and can cause some serious health risks.

The company is urging customers to avoid drinking the water without boiling it first, or to use other sources for water.

The only affected products have codes on the bottle that begin with the letter F, for Hamburg, or A, for Allentown -- the two Pennsylvania towns where the products were bottled.
