18 People Sickened After 'Strange Odor' Reported At Seekonk Panera Bread

SEEKONK (CBS) -- A total of 18 people were evaluated for "various medical issues" Friday morning after a strange odor was reported at a local restaurant.

The Seekonk Fire Department got a call around 11:15 a.m. Friday about the odor at the Panera Bread on Highland Avenue.

When they arrived, the building was being evacuated.

Five people were taken to Rhode Island Hospital for more evaluation and treatment.

The cause and nature of their medical issues wasn't yet known, and the restaurant remains closed as officials investigate.
