Security Boosted At Fenway Park For New Red Sox Season

BOSTON (CBS) -- Red Sox fans headed to Fenway Park on Monday for the home opener or anytime this season are going to notice some changes, including an increase in security.

There's been a push to increase security around ballparks in Major League Baseball, and Fenway is no exception.

Fenway will have 28 metal detectors – one at every gate. Fans will be asked to remove phones, cameras and other large metal objects.

But they won't need to remove smaller items like belts, wallets, coins, keys, jewelry, glasses or shoes.

Fans didn't seem too bothered by the added security.

"I think it's great, I think it's important for everyone to be safe, especially at these big sporting events," one woman told WBZ-TV.

Another fan agreed that the measures were worth it.

"Considering the recent events that happened in Boston too, we're taking precautions now to make sure the places we go for entertainment or to enjoy ourselves are safe," he said.
