Second Man Charged In Boating Accident That Severed Woman's Arm

BOSTON (CBS) – A second man has been charged in the boating accident that severed the arm of a young woman in Boston Harbor.

Prosecutors say 24-year-old Alexander Williams of Boston misled investigators.

Benjamin Urbelis, the boat's owner and a lawyer who specializes in drunk driving cases, has already been charged with OUI and other offenses.

Prosecutors say Williams, Urbelis and others were onboard the 30-foot vessel "Naut Guilty" on May 30. The boat was shut off and anchored off Spectacle Island when a 19-year-old woman left the boat and had trouble getting back on.

Williams allegedly restarted the boat and maneuvered it toward her. As a result, her arm was traumatically amputated by the boat's propeller.

During an investigation into the incident, Boston Police obtained a search warrant for Williams' phone. Before handing the phone over to police Wednesday morning, Williams allegedly deleted all of its content.

Bail was set at $5,000. He will return to court on August 7. Urbelis will return to court on Friday.
