Search Suspended For Missing Boater At NH Lake

GILFORD, New Hampshire (CBS) -- New Hampshire State Police's Marine Patrol says the search for a boater who went missing at Lake Winnipesaukee on Saturday has been suspended until Sunday morning.

The Fish and Game Dive Team ended their search at 9 p.m. Marine Patrol boats will remain on scene doing surface searches.

The dive team will resume its search at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Marine patrol was called about 9:34 a.m. to the area of the Governor's Island Beach at the lake in Gilford. The caller told police that a power boat was circling in the area, and that there was a dog but no people aboard.

Officers found the 17-foot outboard boat was stopped and the dog was taken safely to shore.

The boat's operator, an unidentified man, was nowhere to be found.

Gilford and Laconia police officers, Gilford Fire Rescue and Laconia firefighters helped with the search.

The incident remains under investigation.
