Man Killed In Hit-And-Run On Route 1 In Saugus

SAUGUS (CBS) – State Police are looking for the driver who struck and killed a man on Route 1 in Saugus late Sunday night.

According to WBZ NewsRadio 1030, the man had been at Hooters and was trying to cross Route 1 south when he was hit in the middle lane around 11 p.m.

The driver didn't stop, but parts of a red Mercedes were left behind at the scene, according to police. Investigators say they found a car believed to be involved in the crash and are working to determine who may have been driving.

The man was rushed to Melrose-Wakefield Hospital where he later died.

His name has not been made public yet, but police say he was 33 years old and from New York.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.
