Lightning Strikes Two Homes In Sandwich Neighborhood
SANDWICH (CBS) – Kim Rendon says whoever says lightening doesn't strike the same area twice hasn't been to Greenville Drive in Sandwich, where two homes were struck within seconds of each other on Friday night.
"It was the loudest noise I've ever heard and it was feet away from us," she said.
Fire officials says lightning struck both homes on the same street. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured.
One child was taken to the hospital after getting a shock from his computer.
"Both homes were struck heavy fire and smoke and the other structure had smoke in the basement and on the same street is unique," says Sandwich fire chief William Carrico.
Kim says the lightning struck her home around 11:15 p.m. not far from where she was sleeping.
"When it hit it formed a big hole and big fire at that point," she said.
Kim says thankfully she made it out alive safely with her family.
"I have not processed it yet. It's too much right now," she says. "It's summer time and kids are out of school and now it's a big displacement with the whole family.
"It's weird that it happened twice on the same street."
Flames caused an estimated $75,000 to $100,000 in damage.
