Sanding Truck Crash Shuts Down Part Of Route 24 In Fall River

FALL RIVER (CBS) – One person was sent to a hospital after a dump truck sander crashed on Route 24 in Fall River early Thursday morning, shutting part of the road down at the start of rush hour.

The victim suffered non-life-threatening injuries. The person's condition was not immediately known.

State police said a 2003 Chevy dump truck, carrying a load of sand, lost a tire, rolled over and spilled sand in the southbound lanes around 5:30 a.m.

The accident involving a privately-owned sander occurred in the southbound lane, just south of Exit 6.

Two other vehicles, a 2007 Toyota Camry and 2003 Nissan Spectra, were involved in the crash.

Route 24 was closed between Exit 6 at Highland Avenue and Exit 5 at President Avenue for about two hours.

Crews cleared the scene by 7:45 a.m.
