Sam Adams Brews Up Special 'Big Hapi' Beer In Honor Of David Ortiz

BOSTON (CBS) -- Red Sox fans can enjoy one final "last call" on David Ortiz's career.

Ortiz was honored in many different ways throughout his final season in baseball, but Sam Adams Brewery saved the best for last. Lucky fans can sit back and enjoy a beer made just for Big Papi while they watch the slugger's highlight reel, as the local craft brewer will celebrate Ortiz's career with an extremely limited release dubbed "Big Hapi."

The special beer will only be available at the brewery on Friday, November 4, and only 541 bottles will be available -- one for each of Ortiz's home runs throughout his 19-year career.

"Big Hapi" is described by Sam Adams as a bold mango juice-infused double IPA made with more than five pounds of hops per barrel and dry-hopped with five American hop varieties from the Pacific Northwest. The beverage boasts strong citrus and tropical notes, a piney backbone and resinous flavor.

The 24 oz. bottles of "Big Hapi" will go for $29.99 apiece and will be limited to just one per customer. The best part of the brew is that all proceeds will go to The David Ortiz Children's Fund.

"I'm honored to have a beer brewed especially for me to celebrate my 541 career home runs and my love for this city," Ortiz said of the brew. "I can't wait to try Big Hapi, and am grateful that Sam Adams is helping me raise awareness and money for the David Ortiz Children's Fund."

"Over the years, I've been fortunate to watch David Ortiz hit homers out of the park while enjoying a cold Sam Adams. Now, I'm excited to toast to his record-setting career with Big Hapi Double IPA," said Jim Koch, Founder & Brewer of Samuel Adams. "We're thrilled to honor our hometown baseball hero by doing what we do best, brewing beer, and giving craft beer and baseball fans a commemorative brew to honor an extraordinary legend."

Ortiz fans -- and beer lovers -- can begin lining up outside of the Sam Adams Brewery (located at 30 Germania Street in Boston) starting at 2 pm, with doors opening at 4 pm.
