Sam Adams Releases Limited Edition 'Big Hapi' Brew In Honor Of David Ortiz

JAMAICA PLAIN (CBS) -- Fans lined up four hours early outside the Sam Adams brewery on Friday to secure a limited edition brew they will probably never drink.

The brewery released Big Hapi, a beer to commemorate retiring Red Sox legend David Ortiz. Only 541 bottles of the special brew are available, one for each home run Big Papi hit.

The 24-ounce beer, described on the bottle as a "heavy hitting double IPA brewed with mango," went on sale at 4 p.m. on Friday. The limited edition sells for $29.99 each and every penny of that will go toward the David Ortiz Children's Fund.

Fans waiting in line for the beer to release on Friday told WBZ NewsRadio 1030's Carl Stevens the collaboration is a no-brainer.

"I think it makes sense. He's been a part of Boston culture for years, so has Sam Adams," one fan said.

Brewed with mango, fans expect the beer to be "tasty," though many will never taste it. Many waiting in line around noon on Friday said they don't plan on drinking the limited edition beer, they'll save it as a keepsake.
