2 Wanted In Attempted Armed Carjacking At Salisbury Beach

SALISBURY (CBS) – Salisbury Police are looking for help tracking down two suspects in an attempted carjacking on Monday.

The pair ran away from the scene, but officers released surveillance photos of them hoping to generate some leads in the case.

Investigators said the men tried to take a car in the Blue Ocean parking lot at Salisbury Beach around 8:30 p.m..

"One of the suspects displayed what appeared to be a handgun. So the owner said 'no' and backed up," said Chief Thomas Fowler.

One man was wearing a red hat, a dark gray sweatshirt, and black pants.

The other was in a navy blue long sleeve shirt and gray shorts.

Officials said these two men cornered a family and demanded the car keys to their Maserati Sedan.

According to officials, when the family's teenagers started yelling, the suspects ran away from the scene.

No one was hurt.

In some surveillance video, a girl is seen with the two suspects.

Dylan Copeland saw the aftermath of the incident.

"I just saw a lot of cops running around. They looked like they were scrambling, just looking for something, looking for people," he recalled.

Bob White works in the area. He hopes people are not scared away.

He said, "This is a very, very safe town and we've got a beautiful beach, it's 3.8 miles of beach here."

Police have set up extra patrols in the area.

Anyone with information about the suspects should call 978-465-3121.
