Salem Hospital warns endoscopy patients they may have been exposed to disease

SALEM - Salem Hospital is warning more than 400 endoscopy patients they may have been exposed to some serious diseases.

The hospital said IV medication was administered "in a manner not consistent with our best practice," possibly exposing 450 patients to Hepatitis B and C and HIV. The hospital said this problem went on for roughly two years before it was corrected. They declined to offer any specifics on how this could have been caused.

The hospital said the possible infection risk is low and anyone impacted has been contacted. In a statement, the hospital said there is "no evidence to date of any infections resulting from this."

Salem Hospital is offering free screenings to any patient who has concerns.
