Officials Identify Snowmobiler Found Dead In Rutland

RUTLAND (CBS) – A missing snowmobiler found dead after an extensive search Friday night in Rutland has been identified by officials as Steven Pupkar of Boylston.

In a press statement Saturday night, the Worcester District Attorney's office identified Pupkar, 54, as the snowmobiler.

Massachusetts State Police said that on Friday at about 4:30 p.m. their air wing helicopter was called to Rutland State Forest to help Rutland officers search for a snowmobiler who was reported missing.

A trooper was lowered from the helicopter to the ground to provide medical assistance after the person was located.

At about 7:30 p.m., however, Rutland police said the search had ended and a death investigation had started.

The death is still under investigation but it's not being considered suspicious at this time, officials say.

The victim's body has been taken to the chief medical examiner in Worcester for an autopsy.
