2 Killed In Fiery Rollover Crash On Route 28 In Quincy

QUINCY (CBS) – Two men were killed in fiery rollover crash on Route 28 in Quincy early Wednesday morning.

State Police said the 1999 Mercedes-Benz was engulfed in flames when they arrived at the scene around 1:30 a.m.

"Preliminary investigation indicates that the car was traveling northbound when, for reasons still under investigation, it failed to negotiate a curve in the road," State Police spokesman Dave Procopio said in a statement.

"The car went off the road to the right, struck a tree, then came back into the road post-impact. At some point during the collision the car caught on fire."

There were three people in the sedan. The driver, a 30-year-old man from Boston, and the front seat passenger, a 29-year-old man from Boston, were trapped in the car and died.

The third person, a 30-year-old man from Methuen who was sitting in the back seat, was rushed to Boston Medical Center.  He was later moved to Brigham and Women's Hospital, where he's being treated for serious injuries.

No names have been made public.

No other information is available at this point in the investigation.

Route 28 between Route 93 and Chickatawbut Road was closed for more than four hours after the crash.
