Route 128 Truck Fire Delays Evening Commute

WAKEFIELD (CBS) -- A truck fire on Route 128 in Wakefield created significant traffic problems for the Thursday evening commute.

State police said a truck carrying liquid oxygen and liquid nitrogen somehow caught fire at 4:17 p.m. while traveling southbound. Both northbound and southbound lanes were shut down because of the risk, police said.

All lanes were reopened after about 40 minutes, but the delays were expected to continue, police said.

A minor crash in Harvard caused a backup on Route 2 westbound. Delays were also expected from Insterstate 495 southbound to Route 2 westbound in Littleton after another minor crash.
