Reminder: Parts Of Route 128 Will Shut Down This Weekend

NEEDHAM (CBS) – Hitting the road this weekend? You'll probably want to avoid Route 128 in the Newton-Needham area.

From Friday night, Nov. 4 through Sunday, Nov. 6, MassDOT is closing a section of Route 128/I-95 so that crews can demolish the old Highland Avenue bridge. It's part of an ongoing project that will widen the highway to four lanes.

Starting at 8 p.m. on Friday until 3 p.m. on Saturday, the northbound lanes will close for the bridge demolition. Then, the southbound lanes will be shut down from 6 p.m. on Saturday until 3 p.m. on Sunday.

"It is anticipated that there will be a period of time during this transition during which both North and Southbound mainlines are detoured," MassDOT says.

Traffic will be diverted to local roads during the closure. MassDOT has maps of all the detour routes here.

Drivers are asked to slow down in the construction area, and extra police and signage will be in place to guide traffic.
