AUBURN (CBS) – Auburn High School's baseball team will honor police officer Ronald Tarentino for the rest of their season.

Tarentino was shot and killed during a traffic stop in Auburn early Sunday morning.

The team wanted to pay tribute to him, so they had his initials and badge number sewn into their hats Tuesday.

"For a man such as Officer Tarentino to lay his life on the line for people every day, (this is) just a little sign of respect for him," the team's captain, Conor Scully, told WBZ-TV.

"We wanted to do something for him because the town's so close," said center fielder Pat Fitzgerald.

Auburn High has games Tuesday and Wednesday before the playoffs begin.

The stitching was provided for free by Astrella Ink in Millbury.
