Ron Adams Leaving Celtics To Join Golden State Warriors

BOSTON (CBS) -- Brad Stevens went through his rookie season as an NBA head coach with the very reliable Ron Adams by his side.

Stevens won't have that same luxury for his second NBA season, as Adams is heading out West to be the right-hand man of another first-year head coach.

The much-respected Adams is set to join Steve Kerr's staff on the Golden State Warriors, leaving Stevens without one of his trusted veteran assistant coaches for 2014-15. Adams interviewed for the job last week, and decided Sunday to head out West for a chance to win a title.

It will be a bit of a homecoming for Adams, who both played and started his coaching career at Fresno Pacific University.

"I am very happy for Ron for him to have this opportunity to coach in his home-state," Stevens said in a release. "We all wish Ron nothing but the best, and appreciate all that he did during his year in Boston."

The 66-year-old Adams has been in the NBA for two decades, also coaching for the Bucks, Bulls, Spurs and Thunder.
