Robi On The Road: Dancing Cop Not Stopping In Retirement

BOSTON (CBS) – For more than 30 years, Tony Lepore was known in Providence as "The Dancing Cop."

While he directed traffic downtown, Lepore busted out moves that would wow Michael Jackson.

He went on to be featured prominently on national newscasts who reported his unique traffic directing skills.

Lepore is now retired now from the police force - but not from dancing

Now Lepore takes his act into the schools, not just to show off his dance steps, but also to inspire children.

He tells students to follow their dreams and to respect law enforcement.

During a recent appearance talking with students in Cranston, R.I., Lepore described how he started dancing in the streets, and how he was initially timid around his superiors.

"Now I spot a boss. 'How are you sir?' 'Oh I'm doing fine thank you,'" told the students, describing how the interaction would go. "And when he got a block away and he couldn't see me anymore, I'd start again."

Lepore was a big hit with the students in Cranston, just as he was in the streets of Providence.

"Wow he's a really happy man, and he's kinda crazy," one Cranston student told WBZ-TV with a laugh.
