Road Rage Leads To Drug Bust In Bourne

BOURNE (CBS) -- A 33-year-old Bourne man was arraigned Monday, charged with assault and drug possession with intent to distribute, all because of a road rage incident last Friday.

Police say Mike Barboza was turning into his driveway on Route 3A, when he and another driver got into a fistfight. Barboza grabbed a garden rake, and smashed the other guy's windshield, and then he went into his home and came out with a 9mm pistol, police said.

Officers arrived, and got the situation under control, but then they got a search warrant and found a small marijuana farm in Barboza's basement. There were mature plants, seedlings, and harvested weed all packaged up and ready for sale. All the weed and the farming equipment is now in the garage of the Bourne police.

In court Monday, Barboza's attorney scoffed at the police claim that each plant was worth $8,500.

"If a 3-foot tall plant was worth $8,500, then we'd all be selling the stuff," attorney Jack Atwood said.

Barboza was released on $25,000 bail.
