Revolution's Fagundez Named Finalist For MLS Player Of The Month

BOSTON (CBS) -- Diego Fagundez went on a torrid scoring pace for the New England Revolution in May, and is up for the MLS player of the month award for his efforts.

The New England midfielder is one of five nominees for the MLS Etihad Airways player of the month for May after helping the Revs go 4-1-0 and surge into first place in the Eastern Conference. Fagundez scored four goals and added two assists in New England's five games, and is now second on the team in goals and tied for first in assists.

Voting for May's player of the month is open online until 3 a.m. Thursday, and the winner will be announced later that morning.

Fagundez is up against Kansas City's Dom Dwyer (six goals in seven games), DC United's Fabian Espindola (three goals, two assists in six games), Seattle's Obafemi Martins (three goals, two assists in six games) and Salt Lake's Javier Morales (four goals, three assists in five games).

Making Fagundez's performance in May a little more impressive is the fact that he was also finishing high school. The 19-year-old is set to graduate from Fitchburg's Goodrich Academy on Thursday, completing his high school education on time while playing professionally full-time since 2012.

There's a good chance Fagundez receives more than just his high school diploma on Thursday.
