Revolution Will Face D.C. United Wednesday In Knockout Round

BOSTON (CBS) -- The New England Revolution are back in the MLS Cup Playoffs, hoping to recreate the magic of last year's run to the MLS Cup Final.

The Revolution finished the regular season with a 14-12-8 record for 50 points, good for the fifth seed in the Eastern Conference. They're in the playoffs for the third straight season, and will face D.C. United on Wednesday night at RFK Stadium in the Knockout Round.

The two teams met twice during the regular season, playing to a 1-1 draw in May at Gillette Stadium, with Charlie Davies netting the only goal for New England, while the United came out on top 2-1 in a June tilt at RFK. Davies again had New England's only goal, with Chris Rolfe scoring twice for the victorious United.

Davies scored his team-leading 10th goal of the season in New England's 3-1 win over New York City FC on Sunday.

Wednesday night will be the fourth postseason meeting between the Revs and United and the first since 2006. In the 2006 Eastern Conference Championship, Taylor Twellman scored to give the Revs a 1-0 road win over United and send his team back to MLS Cup. The United beat New England in the 1997 Eastern Conference Semifinals and again in the 2004 Eastern Conference Championship. They went on to win the MLS Cup in each of those seasons.

Should the Revs advance with a win over the United on Wednesday, they would host the Eastern Conference Semifinal Leg 1 at Gillette Stadium on Sunday, November 1.

The Boston Celtics open their 2015-16 season Wednesday night on 98.5 The Sports Hub, so you can catch the Revolution-D.C. United playoff game over on our sister station 100.7FM WZLX or streaming online at 7:30pm.
