38 Units Gutted In Revere Apartment Complex Fire

REVERE (CBS) – More than 100 people were displaced and four firefighters were hurt in a massive fire at a Revere apartment building Sunday afternoon.

Flames broke out around 2 p.m. at the 4-story complex on Franklin Avenue.  It took several hours for firefighters to knock down the flames.

Smoke from the fire could be seen for miles.

"Arriving firefighters saw only smoke and no fire inside each of the fourth floor apartments leading investigators to believe the fire was in a space above the apartments and below the roof, which is now mostly gone," Jennifer Mieth, a spokesperson for the state fire marshal's office, said in a statement Monday.

Thirty-eight apartments were gutted and the building is a total loss.  There is no word yet on a cause, but the fire marshal's office said it is not suspicious.

No residents were hurt. Four firefighters were treated for minor injuries at the hospital and released.
