Report: Dobson Expected To Make Preseason Debut vs. Giants

BOSTON (CBS) -- Aaron Dobson has yet to see any game action this preseason, but that will change Thursday night in New Jersey.

The Boston Herald's Jeff Howe is reporting that Dobson traveled with the Patriots, and the receiver is expected to make his debut in the team's preseason finale against the Giants.

Dobson has been recovering from surgery on his left foot throughout training camp, and did not begin practicing until August 11. The injury bothered him throughout most of his rookie season in 2013, and he had to get a screw inserted into the foot back in March.

A second-round pick by New England, Dobson played in 12 games last season catching 37 passes for 519 yards and four touchdowns. He suffered the injury in Week 12 against the Denver Broncos and missed the next three games before returning for the final two contests of the regular season. After his return, Dobson was limited to just two catches for 27 yards. He caught just two passes for three yards in the postseason, both coming in New England's AFC Championship loss to Denver.

Dobson won't get a chance to work on his chemistry with quarterback Tom Brady, who will get the night off as rookie quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo will play most (if not all of) the final preseason tilt. Most of New England's starters will get the night off, but Dobson being on the field is a good sign that he'll be ready to go for Week 1 against the Miami Dolphins.
