Pablo Sandoval Undergoes Surgery, Will Miss Remainder Of 2016 Season

BOSTON (CBS) -- The procedure on Pablo Sandoval's left shoulder has been completed, and as expected, it's going to keep him off the field for the remainder of the 2016 season.

The Red Sox announced the news on Tuesday afternoon, noting that Dr. James Andrews performed the surgery in Pensacola, Fla.

Yahoo's Jeff Passan reported that the surgery on Sandoval's non-throwing shoulder involved a repair of a torn labrum as well as a "cleanup" of the rotator cuff.

When it was first reported that Sandoval would go under the knife, it was expected that it would likely be a season-ending surgery, and Tuesday's news confirms the suspicion.

The Red Sox said they expect Sandoval to make a full recovery for 2017.

Sandoval's final numbers for 2016 will be three games played, zero hits, one walk, four strikeouts, one error, $17 million earned.
