Jacoby Brissett Undergoes Surgery, Placed On IR
BOSTON (CBS) -- The season is most likely over for rookie quarterback Jacoby Brissett.
Brissett underwent surgery on Friday, according to The Boston Globe, for his thumb injury which he suffered during the Patriots' Week 3 win over the Texans. Brissett managed to play through the injury last week against Buffalo, but ultimately, surgery was necessary.
Additionally, the team will place Brissett on injured reserve, according to Adam Schefter.
Update: The team officially announced that Brissett had been placed on IR on Friday afternoon.
The move very likely ends Brissett's rookie season. Though he is technically eligible to return from IR after eight weeks, the team is more likely to take a player in a position of need when it comes time to active someone off the IR. Tackle Sebastian Vollmer remains a possibility in that regard.
Brissett , a third-round pick out of North Carolina State, completed 34 of 55 passes for 400 yards with no touchdowns and no interceptions. He also ran for 83 yards and a touchdown on 16 attempts.
The move to IR for Brissett presumably means that Jimmy Garoppolo is healthy enough to serve as the backup quarterback behind Tom Brady.
