Report: Chandler Jones Could Miss Regular Season With Hip Injury

FOXBORO (CBS) – The New England Patriots were already faced with the prospect of losing athletic defensive end Chandler Jones for a month with a hip injury. But according to one report, it may be even longer before Jones hits the field again.

Citing a source close to the situation, Jeff Howe of the Boston Herald reported on Saturday that the injury could force Jones to miss six weeks in a best case scenario.

According to Howe's source, Jones may miss the remainder of the regular season.

Jones appeared to hurt his hip on a play in the second quarter in last week's game against the Jets while chasing quarterback Geno Smith.

Prior to the injury, Jones had piled up 4.5 sacks and forced one fumble. Against the Minnesota Vikings in Week 2, Jones blocked a field goal, scooped it up and ran the ball in for a 58-yard touchdown.

The Patriots host the Chicago Bears on Sunday before squaring off against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos next Sunday as a part of a grueling six-week stretch for the team.
