Report: Agent For Loui Eriksson 'Expecting A New Offer' From Bruins

BOSTON (CBS) -- The Boston Bruins and Loui Eriksson continue to negotiate a new contract for the pending unrestricted free agent winger. Agent J.P. Barry of CAA Sports, who represents Eriksson, says he has been waiting to receive a fresh contract offer from GM Don Sweeney.

According to ESPN hockey writer Pierre LeBrun's "Rumblings" column, Barry texted him on Thursday: "Don and I have been in regular communication. We were expecting a new offer from the Club at some point but we haven't received one yet. ... I'm sure we will speak again prior to the draft about their intentions."

Eriksson is coming off his first 30-goal season since 2008-09 and could command a big payday as a free agent. If the Bruins don't re-sign him, they also have the option of trading his negotiation rights sometime before next Friday's NHL Draft. The Arizona Coyotes just traded a fifth-round pick for negotiating rights to pending UFA defenseman Alex Goligoski, so it would not be an unprecedented move for a team that covets Eriksson as a UFA to have exclusive rights to woo him before free agency begins on July 1.
