Reilly Smith: 'I Don't Mind Shedding A Couple Locks' For Charity

BOSTON (CBS) - The Bruins have an important game on the road Thursday night, as they travel to Ottawa to take on the surging Senators, now just four points behind Boston in the standings with a game in hand.

But before the B's play in this pivotal regular season game, forward Reilly Smith joined 98.5 The Sports Hub's Ryan Johnston and Mike Flynn Thursday morning, both filling in for Toucher & Rich.

Teammate Patrice Bergeron announced earlier this week that for the first time ever all of the Bruins will be participating in Cuts For A Cause, a charity event put on by the team and the radio station to raise money for children battling cancer.

Over the past seven years the event has raised over $360,000 for charity, which benefits the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center.

Reilly Smith didn't sound all too enthusiastic about receiving a new hairdo, but he knows it's for a good cause.

"It's for a good cause, so I don't mind shedding a couple locks for something like that and to support a good charity," Smith told the morning show.

Participants can place bids on their favorite Bruins player, and the highest bidder gets to pick up the blade and clippers and dish out a haircut.

Smith addressed some friendly competition among himself and Brad Marchand as to who gets the highest bid, but acknowledged he'll probably lose out in the end.

"I think [Marchand] opted out on doing it last year, so people are gonna probably bid a lot of money to shave that little guy's head," Smith joked.

Bergeron told Toucher & Rich on Monday that Loui Eriksson was by far the hardest teammate to convince to participate, and days later Smith isn't positive the Swede will end up going through with it.

"I'm still not 100 percent sure [Eriksson] will do it when it comes down to the wire. He's definitely been on the fence for this whole situation. He's trying to find every backdoor and alley to get out of it," Smith joked. "I think Bergy is doing a pretty good job putting the full court press on him and making him feel bad because everyone else is doing it this year. He stands in front of the mirror for at least 10 minutes trying to make it perfect every time he leaves the room."
