Red Sox Truck Day Ready To Roll On Thursday
BOSTON (CBS) -- The snow in Boston is being measured by the foot, but nothing can stop baseball season from coming.
And he first sign of that season will appear on Thursday morning at snowy Fenway Park, with the annual tradition known fondly as Truck Day.
The Red Sox announced that despite the snowy roads, Truck Day is set to take place as planned on Thursday, Feb. 12, beginning at 7 a.m. That's when the loading of the truck begins, a process that includes:
- 20,400 baseballs
- 1,100 bats
- 200 batting gloves
- 200 batting helmets
- 320 batting practice tops
- 160 white game jerseys
- 300 pairs of pants
- 400 t-shirts
- 400 pairs of socks
- 20 cases of bubble gum
- 60 cases of sunflower seeds
That's a lot of socks.
Of course, Wally the Green Monster never misses a truck day, so he'll be there on a truck tossing soft baseballs to fans.
"The celebration of Truck Day has been a Red Sox tradition since 2003," the Red Sox said. "It signals the unofficial start of Spring Training."
The truck, driven by Milford native Al Hartz, is scheduled to depart at noon. Warm weather ... hopefully ... some day ... will follow.
