Red Sox Recall Lavarnway From Pawtucket, Option Wilson
BOSTON (CBS)-- With Mike Napoli on the disabled list, the Boston Red Sox recalled first baseman/catcher Ryan Lavarnway from Triple-A Pawtucket on Monday.
Lavarnway will be active for the Red Sox in Monday afternoon's game against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field.
The 26-year-old Larvarnway joins Boston for his first major league stint of the season after batting .265 (43-for-162) with seven doubles, two home runs, and 11 RBI in 44 games for the PawSox. Lavarnway has reached base via hit or walk in each of his last eight games, batting .300 (9-for-30) with three walks in that span.
In 88 career major league games, Lavarnway is a .208 hitter (56-for-269) with five homers and 34 RBI.
To make room for Lavarnway on the 25-man roster, right-handed pitcher Alex Wilson was optioned back to Pawtucket. Wilson appeared in his first game of the 2014 season for the Red Sox during Sunday's 8-5 loss at Tampa Bay, throwing one scoreless inning in relief.
