Red Sox Pick Up 2016 Option On Clay Buchholz
BOSTON (CBS) -- Get ready for another year of Clay Buchholz on the Boston Red Sox.
As expected, the team has exercised their 2016 option on the oft-injured right-hander. He will make $13 million for the 2016 season, with Boston holding a team option for $13.5 million for the 2017 season.
The 2016 season will be Buchholz's 10th in the majors. The 31-year-old has a 73-51 record with a 3.85 ERA over his career.
His 2015 campaign was over after just 18 starts, ended by a strained right flexor tendon he suffered against the New York Yankees on July 10. Buchholz was 7-7 with a 3.26 ERA at the time of the injury, and despite hopes he could return in late September, was only able to throw a bullpen session at the end of the season.
Buchholz, the longest-tenured member of the Red Sox pitching staff, is in the mix for Boston's 2016 rotation along with Eduardo Rodriguez, Rick Porcello, Wade Miley, Henry Owens and others.
