Red Sox Option Drew To Single-A, Call Up Reliever Alex Wilson From Pawtucket

BOSTON (CBS) -- Stephen Drew's road back to the Red Sox will start in Greenville, South Carolina.

Drew cleared waivers on Friday and was optioned to Single-A Greenville, where he will be in the lineup for Friday night's game against Augusta.

The Red Sox signed Drew for the rest of the season on Tuesday, hoping the veteran will help shore up their defense on the left side of the infield.

With Drew being sent to the minors, Boston was able to call up reliever Alex Wilson, who has a 1.42 ERA for Pawtucket over 18 appearances.
